About an English tutor

A personalised approach to English tuition, built on experience, passion and the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.

an English tutor

was founded on a simple belief: every student deserves to feel confident, capable and supported in their learning. One-to-one tuition creates the time and space to give students the individual attention they need.

English is about far more than examinations and grades. It gives us the tools to communicate, question, imagine and express ourselves. Tuition should help students succeed academically while discovering the value of those skills beyond the classroom.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
- Nelson Mandela

Guiding Principles

A simple philosophy that shapes every lesson, every conversation and every student's learning journey.

Every student comes first

Too often, students lose confidence because learning starts to feel overwhelming. I believe that when we slow things down, break challenges into achievable steps and celebrate progress along the way, confidence begins to replace anxiety.

Personalised Learning

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to English. Lessons are carefully tailored to each student's strengths, challenges and aspirations, helping every learner make meaningful progress with confidence and purpose.

Confidence Builds Success

Academic progress begins with confidence. In a calm, encouraging environment, students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks and developing the confidence to embrace new challenges and achieve their goals.

Beyond the Classroom

The aim is not simply better grades, but stronger communication, deeper understanding and a lifelong appreciation of English that continues beyond the classroom, shaping confident learners for years to come.

Hello, I am Helene

My passion for English Language and Literature drives everything I do as a tutor. I enjoy helping students explore how language works, discover different interpretations and find the words to express their own ideas. Sharing that enthusiasm—and seeing a student begin to enjoy a subject they once found daunting—is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
Beyond teaching, I have a lifelong love of travel and exploration. I have been fortunate to live and work in different parts of the world, experience new cultures and take part in teaching and animal welfare projects. My travels have taken me from the rainforests of Borneo to the mountains of New Zealand.
Away from the desk, I enjoy discovering new places, ideas and creative pursuits. Pudding, my highly entertaining cat and occasional teaching assistant, is often close by to supervise proceedings.

Experience & Expertise

Over twenty years, I have taught students across all Key Stages and multiple exam boards, both in the UK and internationally. Working with different curricula, abilities and educational settings has developed my understanding of how English skills progress and where students commonly encounter difficulties.
My experience also includes curriculum leadership, mentoring colleagues and developing teaching resources and strategies. This helps me connect individual lessons with the wider demands of classroom learning, examinations and independent study.
Whether a student needs to strengthen core skills or develop more sophisticated analysis, I draw on that experience to identify useful next steps and provide focused guidance.
